Nga Vaka Family Violence Workshops

Recently, Lina and Malia attended two Nga Vaka Family Violence Workshops as part of the accredited Nga Vaka o Kāiga Tapu Micro-Credential offered by The Cause Collective.

The workshops provided valuable insights into Pacific-specific family violence frameworks, namely Koe Fakatupuolamoui he tau Magafaoa Niue (Niue framework) and Toku Fou Tiale (Tuvalu framework).

As the only Pacific researchers in attendance, Lina and Malia were able to share perspectives on how these cultural frameworks can be applied within their research practice, particularly in community engagement and ensuring the rights, dignity, and wellbeing of Pacific communities are upheld.

“The workshops deepened our understanding of cultural nuances within Pacific  communities and created opportunities for meaningful discussions with the health and social service professionals from across the sector,” said Malia. “The experience reinforced the importance of cultural competency, ethical research practice, and Pacific-led approaches when working with Pacific communities.”

Lina and Malia look forward to applying the learnings from these workshops to their ongoing research practice, and helping to strengthen culturally grounded and community-centred approaches to their work.
