Bernadette (Ngā Wairiki, Ngāti Apa) is co-leader on the Taunakitanga Takitini programme and is a Registered General and Obstetric Nurse with 5 decades of clinical experience in Aotearoa New Zealand and Australia and she has worked as a researcher in the Department of Medicine, UOW for over twenty years. She is a Kaupapa Māori Research leader, with expertise in mātauranga Māori, particularly the health and wellbeing of tāngata whaikaha Māori (Māori with lived experience of long-term conditions/disability), using a co-design approach to support Māori to develop their own whānau directed and community-led solutions, to achieve equity in health outcomes.
