Tēnā koutou,

I am from Whanganui-a-Tara, where I live beside te awa Kairangi and below the Remutaka Ranges. I live with my husband, two children and dog called Summer. We walk, run and swim along the river.

I am a physiotherapist and experienced mixed-methods researcher who has a research platform based around the hauora of disabled people and their whānau. This platform is underpinned by two key programmes of research: 1.) Reducing health inequities of and with disabled people and 2.) Improving the participation of disabled people by mitigating socioecological barriers.

Disabled people have the right to have choice and control over their lives, including the freedom to participate equally in all aspects of society. By working collectively, there are opportunities to positively disrupt systems discrimination, including within health delivery. Re-conceptualising supported self-management to encompass disabled people’s worldviews is a necessary process in enabling equitable health delivery.
