Associate Professor Tristram R. Ingham KSO ONZM

Clinical Epidemiologist | Māori Health and Disability Advocate

Tristram Ingham (Ngāti Kahungunu ki Heretaunga, Ngāti Porou) is a clinical epidemiologist and health systems researcher based at the University of Otago, Wellington. With more than 20 years’ experience, Tristram’s work focuses on improving health outcomes for Māori, disabled people, and tāngata whaikaha Māori (Māori with lived experience of disability).

As a key contributor to self-management research in Aotearoa, Tristram brings extensive experience in co-designing equity-focused interventions that address systemic barriers within the health system. His work has been instrumental in advancing person-centred, disability-responsive, and culturally safe care pathways. Tristram is passionate about using robust data to shape more equitable health services and has led national projects improving access to medicines and self-management support for priority populations.

He is a recognised leader in disability rights and serves in governance roles across the health sector, including as Board Member of Te Tāhū Hauora (Health Quality & Safety Commission), as well as Chair of Te Ao Mārama Aotearoa Trust and the Foundation for Equity and Research New Zealand. Tristram’s contributions to public health were nationally acknowledged through his leadership of the COVID-19 ‘bubble’ strategy to protect at-risk communities.
